At 7:30pm on 28th May, with smooth takeoff of CA1867, the central runway overhauling of Beijing Capital Intl. Airport is successfully completed and pass the industry acceptance so as to resume before the due date.
Within the 140 hours during the construction of the central runway, the Capital Airport and all the operational support units overcome multiple pressure and difficulties such as high construction technical requirements and the great operational difficulties. It finishes the overhauling of asphalt pavement with total quantity of about 32000m2, while nearly 1400 flights for each day are guaranteed.
In the respect of pavement building, the Capital Airport optimizes the design of the asphalt concrete mixture ratio and enhances the non-deformability of the pavement by using new materials including high modulus asphalt. At the same time, the airport sets surface data acquisition system in relevant areas and carries out scientific evaluation on the overall performance of runway by detecting the pavement termly.
In terms of flight operation, the Capital Airport negotiates the flight scheduling during the period of overhaul with relevant airlines several times, in order to minimize the impact of the central runway overhauling on flight operation and passenger travel. It would adjust the daily flights number from about 1700 to 1400 and actively coordinates with ATC sector to implement priority protection to the flights during the construction so as to ensure reliable and smooth operation.
Since the central runway of the Capital Airport came into service in 1958, it was carried out the first major overhaul in 1996 and non-suspend construction on both sides of the runway. The Capital Airport has always been highly concerned about the health status of the runway and checks all the three runways regularly by making plans of daily, weekly and monthly detailed maintenance so as to troubleshoot problems in time as well as eliminate all security risks.
