On the 27^th of May, the groundbreaking ceremony of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport was held in Jianyang, Sichuan province, a project with the greatest investment volume in Sichuan of all time. Aimed to be a state-level international airport hub, it will be constructed to be a  “world-class and domestically-advanced” humanitarian, intelligent and green airport, with six runways on completion, 4 vertical and 2 horizontal. Once the airport is completed, Chengdu will become the only city in the west and the third one in China with two international airports while the airport itself will become the forth state-level airport hub in China.
 
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is located in Jianyang, a core location in Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone，next to Tianfu new district and 50 kilometers away from central Chengdu. In terms of comprehensive transport planning, this is an airport with seamless connection and no transit.

The configuration of the airport comes from the idea of the flying Sunbird, representing the continuance, inheritance and growth of ancient Shu culture and the airport taking off in a confident and soaring posture.

The first period of the project includes three runways and terminals with a whole investment of 71.86 billion Yuan. It is scheduled to be completed in 2019 and put into use in 2020. The passenger throughout is expected to be 40 million.
